SARAH PALIN AS THE PIVOT FOR 'NEW' GOP

Hey ed.,

You hate Sarah Palin? Ok, I don't love everyone myself. While this site has never been particularly kind to Sarah, I think a post as to why exactly you hate her would be welcome. It would certainly drive up the traffic, don't you think?

IS THERE ANY WAY SARAH PALIN CAN RECOVER?

I think it was unfortunate that you used the term "MILF" in reference to Palin. It is akin to calling Tea Party attendants "Teabaggers", another pornographic slur. I know it is popular on the left to refer to those on the right in this manner. I don't think it is appropriate for those on the right to repeat and make legit these types of references.

THE ANTI-REASON CONSERVATIVES

"I don't know about you, but I am impatient with those Republicans who after the last election rushed into print saying, "We must broaden the base of our party"-- when what they meant was to fuzz up and blur even more the differences between ourselves and our opponents."

"Our people look for a cause to believe in. Is it a third party we need, or is it a new revitalized second party, raising a banner of no pale pastels, but bold colors which make it unmistakably clear where we stand on all of the issues troubling the people?"

"A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers."

"I do not believe I have proposed anything that is contrary to what has been considered Republican principle. It is at the same time the very basis of conservatism. It is time to reassert that principle and raise it to full view. And if there are those who cannot subscibe to these principles, then let them go their way." Ronald Reagan March 3, 1975

For the Republican Party to ask me, a conservative, to support someone with all the beliefs of Dede is a bridge too far. If that makes me an idiot so be it. I believe the above words show that I stand in good company.

OBAMA'S TIMELY VISIT TO DOVER

The original story by the NYT referred to political purposes for the trip.
The story was subsequently changed to delete this reference. I hope the President's reason for going was as per this article and not for political
puposes as originally reported.

YES TO HOFFMAN, BUT NO LITMUS TEST PLEASE

With her views I would still have a hard time calling her a "moderate" Republican. But, in any case, thanks for giving us your review of the race. It certainly doesn't appear as black and white as I once thought. I'm still supporting Hoffman, though.

THE DIFFERENT REALITY INHABITED BY THE CONSERVATIVE BASE

Rick,

I would appreciate you reviewing the race for NY-23. I have read your arguments that conservatism needs to change and that it needs to embrace a Burkeian Welfare State. I assume this means those in the Republican base should embrace those with different views and try to ameliorate, perhaps, the rate of change desired by the Democrats.
As I understand it, NY-23 is a conservative district, relatively. Scozzafina is endorsed by Gingrich, the RNC, and the RNCC. She supported the stimulus, and supports abortion, gay marriage rights, and card-check. I get the impression from your arguments that I should support her because it will broaden the base and she's a Republican.
I would appreciate your views on this race and your opinion as to why these people would support a candidate who seems to be at odds with everything about the Republican Party. This is if you have the time and interest, of course.
As to being a member of the Republican base and cut off from the majority of the country who are arranged in some type of continuum, well, maybe we should just start our meetings with "Stranger in a Strange Land".

'WHY DON'T YOU PASS THE TIME BY WRITING ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING?'

"11 years of cooling temperatures or a thickening of Artic Ice does not debunk the entire theory"

"That's as nonsensical as anything uttered by Al Gore"

Are you sure, Rick, you want to stand by those statements? Anything????

SHOULD NEWSPAPERS GO NON-PROFIT?

Say it ain't so, Joe.

"Sadly, many on both the right and the left read only those blogs that reflect their partisan tilt (this is less true on the left ...)."

Hot Air had a post, "Conservatives more likely to read opposing viewpoints than Liberals", in which university studies would seem to rebute this. Why do you think the left's reading is more diverse?

Anecdotal evidence (i.e. not worth much). My sister, a liberal, accused me of getting all my info from Fox and right-leaning blogs. I told her I also read articles in Salon, Huffington Post, the NY Times, Washington Post, etc.
I also rarely watch Fox News. I asked her where she gets opposing views. Her answer was that she watches "Morning Joe" on MSNBC. Enough said about who is exposed to the most diverse commentary, etc.

THE GOOD AND THE BAD OF OBAMA'S EURO-MISSILE DEFENSE PLAN

"They may have noticed it"

I personally feel "they" may have this date uppermost in their minds. To do this on the anniversary of Russia's invasion of Poland is either symbolic or really stupid. I don't think "they" are at all inclined to believe "really stupid".

And we are making this big change based on "intelligence" about Iran's missile capability? Are these the same guys who told us that Iran's not working to build a nuclear bomb?

In January President Obama promised the Polish government they would get the missile shield. The WH did try to walk it back but I believed the Polish guy.
Are we still questioning whether Obama lies?

NO WONDER BUSH WAS A FAILURE AS PRESIDENT

Was there a choice in 2000 or 2004 for a conservative voter?

Bush has just tarnished his legacy. I will always honor him for his work in the war on terror. He redefined the Republican Party? He's taking credit for the mess we're in now? He put the conservatives in such a fix and is taking credit for it?

A friend of mine took a picture with Clinton in 1999 and is proud of it. Personally I will be sending W my badges from 2000 and 2004 and would not ask him for an autograph (much less a photo) if I had the chance.

Congratulations, President Bush, you have now earned the sobiquet "turd blossom".
